What is an "App"?

To begin with, "App" is simply short for "applications". In this case, we are referring to a software application or the more common word, a software "program". Unlike a regular computer program, a "mobile app" is a special type of a software program that is used on today's "smartphones" (such as iPhones, Androids) or mobile devices (such as iPad and/or tablets). Some mobile apps are also available as "online/web apps". All of the 5 mobile apps featured on this page are also web apps. So now, you can take your business wherever you go!

1. SCANBIZCARDS - Best for business card and contact management!

Scanbizcards offers an alternative to those who could use some help with transferring contacts from business cards to your smartphones or database of contacts.

Features to love:
  1. Snap a picture of a business card with your phone and the app will scan all readable information on the card. It automatically creates and adds fields to your list of contacts.
  2. Integration with Websync (on desktop) that allows syncing of the card information across multiple platforms including iOS, Android and a desktop client.
  3. Websync also allows user to import contact info to an excel CSV file that can be used in other networking platforms for easy contact management.
  4. Double sided card support, integration with Evernote.
  5. Sharing capability allowing access to a public link where anyone can view the folder(s) shared.

Going green at SOAR!

We use this app to capture business card images at networking events. We try hard to minimize the actual number of business cards we bring home from a networking event.  Helps eliminate boxes and piles of business cards after meeting new connections. This app also makes it easy for our global team members to access contact information from any mobile phone or computer in the world! What can we say? We just love being green!

2. DROPBOX - Cloud based file organization and sharing.

Dropbox is a cloud base storage application to keep all your documents. It allows you to access any of your files or documents on multiple platforms anytime, anywhere in the world!

Features to love:
  1. Documents saved in Dropbox will be automatically uploaded to the servers (virtual/online) and can be accessed through any of your mobile devices and online (www.Dropbox.com)
  2. Excellent way to backup of your data daily and it has excellent sharing and syncing abilities.
  3. Upload documents and/or files, images, videos, slide presentations for sharing. 
  4. Compatible with various operating system including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and various mobile devices namely iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone 7 and WebOS.
  5. Allow access to deleted documents for 30 days before they are permanently deleted from the folder.
  6. Invite friends to use Dropbox and receive extra storage space! Got to love that! 

We promise we will not drop anything!

How can we? Especially when we have an app that can be accessed from multiple platforms. It becomes really helpful when we're at a location with no access to our very own personal computers! One way we've used Dropbox is to share documents and/or files with our community members. One person uploads it and the other downloads it.  No travelling, mailing or even a thumb drive is required! How cool is that?

3. PODIO - A Project Management app that rocks!

PODIO is truly a Project Management app that truly allows you to "Work the way you want to"! If you have used or are currently using a Project Management tool or software for managing all your projects with your team, you may want to take this app for a test run!

Features to love:
  1. Create workspaces to invite team members and/or clients to cowork on projects.
  2. Ability to attach files, images and videos on the apps and spaces.
  3. Create, delegate, share and view tasks. 
  4. Build web form.
  5. Send and receive private messages in Inbox.
  6. Receive notifications on projects.
  7. Syncing ability with Google Docs, Evernote, GoToMeeting, Facebook, Dropbox and many more!
  8. Team collaboration to manage and track leads, sales, and reports.
  9. Customize and/or build apps to suit your working needs.
  10. Mobile app is one of the most functional for Project Management. Packs a punch!

We eat, live and breathe PODIO for our team's Project Management needs.

We use it cowork witn team members and clients across the world. Since we all have busy schedules and lives, it's crucial that our organization uses a powerful PM tool that fits our team's needs. 

We have used many other Project Management tools/apps in the past and this has truly been our team's favorite. PODIO allows us to visually stay on top of tasks, deliverables, milestones for projects and events. It's easy to find documents, start discussions, share an idea and make comments. PODIO's similiarity to Facebook's functionality in sharing information gives our team the ability to structure the way we work. Absolutely love it!

4. HOOTSUITE - Social Media scheduling dashboard.

Hootsuite is a free tool that helps users to connect their various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and FourSquare.

Features to love:
  1. Helps the user to view each social networking site at the same time, enabling you to "like", "retweet", comment and post all from one convenient platform.
  2. Enables user to schedule when they would like their tweets of Facebook postings to be sent with a full calendar and an option to pick what time the user would like them to be sent.
  3. The Pro version of Hootsuite allows user to connect unlimited social media sites and provides analytical data but the free version is more than enough for begineers as it is clean, friendy and has an easy to use layout.

Our busy team uses Hootsuite to manage our time effectively when it comes to scheduling our Social Media  posts.

At SOAR, we use this app to schedule our weekly social media posts on multiple Social Networks. As Small Business owners, who has the time to monitor posts on a daily basis right? It also allows us to view our multiple Social Networks. This tool simply rocks!

5. SQUARE - Payment processing.

Have you ever had someone ask you, "Can I pay you with my Debit or Credit Card?" for a product or service that you offer? If your answer is no, check this out!

Square is the new way of getting paid! You are literally one swipe away from accepting payments from your customer and/or clients. No more worries about paying high monthly terminal rental fees for those credit card machines that you hardly use. You don't even have to worry about a returned check too! Here's a great app for small businesses that do not run a high volume of card transactions. As a matter of fact, it's the perfect way to get paid for individuals, soloprenenurs to medium sized businesses. 

Features to love:
  1. Safe and secure transactions.
  2. Save time and money when doing business transactions with it's "key in" or "card swipe" capabilities. 
  3. Payments for your service can be made directly to your bank account whenever and wherever you are.
  4. Capture credit card holder signature on screen!
  5. Email receipts directly credit card holder's email account.

We love getting paid fast and easy!

Who doesn't right? We use this app mostly to accept payments at any of our live events. It's such a powerful little thing!
